MOUSE-TRAK Cleaning

Cleaning Procedures:

Topics Covered:

This video covers the proper cleaning of a Mouse-Trak that does NOT involve disassembling the unit. This procedure should be carried out if the unit feels rough or "crunchy", or when the normal cursor movement has become jittery or erratic.

Instructions:

Despite the unit being designed to operate in harsh environments, over time your Mouse-Trak will become dirty through normal use, from dust, skin oils and other environmental contaminants. When this happens, the ball movement will begin to feel rough. You may also notice erratic cursor movement during use.

If you experience any of these symptoms, your Mouse-Trak may need to be cleaned. In order to clean your unit, you will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Spin the ball as hard and fast as you can several times in each of the diagonal directions. This action causes the shafts to wiggle back and forth as well as getting them to high RPM's. The dirt and contaminants will fly off into the case where they can cause no additional problems.
  2. Place the palm of your hand on the ball. While using downward pressure, move your hand in circular motions. This action will further clean the shaft surface.
