GARLAND, Texas - Sept. 29, 1997 - ITAC Systems, Inc., introduced today its MOUSE-TRAK Personal, an advanced, specialized mouse to meet the productivity and ease-of-use needs of Microsoft Office users in production, general office, and home environments. Recognizing that Microsoft Office users have specific point-and-click routines in their work with this popular software suite, ITAC has provided an interface that addresses those particular activities in order to decrease repetitive physical actions, and thereby increase efficiency.
The Interface Supports the User
"The MOUSE-TRAK Personal even improves the intuitive nature of the user/software interface by associating one specific action with each intended instruction," explained Don Bynum, ITAC president and CEO. "For example, a single button click that performs the double-click function, such as the selection of a word or block of text, cuts the number of motions and the time to execute them in half. Starting a click-and-drag function is just as easy - one click, then using the middle fingers for fine motor control, moving the pointer to drag and drop the selection."
Common Point-and-Click Functions
There are three buttons on the MOUSE-TRAK Personal. While most common office software programs take advantage of only two buttons, the MOUSE-TRAK lets users execute their most common Microsoft Office functions - left-button double-click or click-and-drag - at the convenient middle button.
ITAC designed the MOUSE-TRAK Personal to be customized quickly. The user can reprogram the MOUSE-TRAK Personal for left-handed use directly from the keypad. A simple key-chord accomplishes this programming change in the MOUSE-TRAK Personal, and the settings can easily be switched back to the default with the same key-chord. In case the user forgets how or misplaces the easy-to-read instruction manual, the directions are printed on the bottom of the device.
In addition, a speed-control button, located above and to the left of the wrist pad, quickly toggles the MOUSE-TRAK Personal's cursor movement from ballistic acceleration mode, in which the cursor moves proportionally to both the distance and speed with which the ball is moved, to a standard fixed speed, in which the cursor moves only in proportion to the distance the ball is moved. Many users prefer to employ the built-in speed control of the MOUSE-TRAK Personal and, therefore, set their software control for the device at its slowest setting. With initial use, the variety of available settings can be considered to determine personal preferences.
Easy-to-Install
Since the MOUSE-TRAK Personal works with standard system mouse drivers that are part of the computer operating software, there are no special drivers to install or maintain. Just plug the MOUSE-TRAK Personal into the appropriate port, start the computer, and a user can begin to enjoy effortless operation that reduces strain and improves productivity and control.
The MOUSE-TRAK Personal consumes about half the desk space of a standard mouse pad. Pointing activities requiring fine motor skills for accuracy are appropriately controlled with the middle fingers, not with the wrist and elbow, as with ordinary mouse products.
Top-Quality Construction for Durability and Service
"We construct the MOUSE-TRAK Personal with very-high-quality materials," commented Bynum. "We use ruggedized stainless-steel shafts and the same type of stainless-steel bearings used in hard disk drives. When you buy a MOUSE-TRAK Personal, you can expect to enjoy it for a very long time."
The MOUSE-TRAK Personal also features a super-hard, high-gloss phenolic ball that is positioned slightly lower relative to the surface of the device than in many competitors' products. This helps maintain the hand and wrist in a more natural position. The wrist pad not only contributes to proper elevation, but also provides a comfortable, supportive cushion for the user's wrist, whether their computer use is occasional and interrupted or all-day production mode.
Easy-to-Clean
The MOUSE-TRAK Personal is self-cleaning under normal operating conditions. Simply spin the ball as hard and fast as possible in diagonal directions. This causes the dirt, oil, and grime that the ball picks up in normal operation to fly off into the case, where it causes no more problems. Then press down on the ball and move it in a circular direction to further clean the shaft surface. One needs rarely, if ever, to disassemble the MOUSE-TRAK Personal for a more thorough cleaning.
A Family of Precision Input Devices
The MOUSE-TRAK Personal, priced at $89.00, is just one member of the MOUSE-TRAK family of precision-control input devices, including the evolution MOUSE-TRAK, MOUSE-TRAK Professional, the MOUSE-TRAK Desktop Industrial, and a line of panel-mountable components.
